Rotek Makes A Difference
The NPS (National Park Service) Lead Technician contacted Rotek regarding a bearing replacement they needed for the deck crane on the M/V RANGER III, the US Department of Interior vessel that services the Isle Royale National Park and other small inhabited islands on Lake Superior.
The obsolete, 30 year old bearing supporting the deck crane that loads and unloads critical provisions needed replaced. The M/V RANGER III was dry docked until the crane could be fixed. Rotek partnered with Schwartz Boiler Shop on an engineered solution for the deck crane.
Under tight time constraints and after a long winter with people waiting to get their provisions - and the crew of the Ranger needing to get their season under way, Rotek was able to manufacturer a rolled ring forging, pinion and bearing to get the crane operational.
Roger Schwartz of Schwartz Boiler Shop offered his thanks to Rotek, "I would like to sincerely thank you and the Rotek team members for their commitment to keep the M/V RANGER III crane install on schedule. We have spent the weekend in Houghton, MI aboard the vessel and the ring is finish welded and painted with two coats of epoxy, and we are back to our base in Cheboygan.
Please extend our compliments to the shop staff and all involved for the excellent customer service that you have provided to Schwartz Boiler Shop, Inc./Isle Royale National Park, and to the United States Department of the Interior."
Rotek President Dr. Tim Gudszend, "This was a real team effort and a great example of what the new Rotek is all about. By focusing on our customers and quality processes, we are demonstrating our commitment to customers, quality and everything that has made Rotek the North American leader in slewing bearings and rolled ring forgings".
